10 reasons I think I'm awesome

Last weeks post got me thinking about what I actually like about myself. I thought I'd share the result with you to show that I'm not all insecurity and regret. So, a non exhaustive list of reasons I think I'm awesome:
  1. I have a very strong ability to concentrate. When I really think about something (normally something mathematical), I can block out the world around me and just THINK. It doesn't always work but when it does, it's great.

  2. I am a really fast reader and easily get through a 100 pages in an hours. Also, I can read forever. I used to spent nights reading 800 page books in one and was still able to recount the storyline afterwards.

  3. I'm quite efficient when doing practical things such as organizing, planning, cleaning up the kitchen or getting everybody out the door. In the past, my friends have banned me from using the word “efficient” Apparently it was getting annoying ;)

  4. I'm really quite good at improvised cooking. You know, the sort of “Oh, we have half a courgette, some tomato purée and an old shoe. Right, dinner.”

  5. I'm really good at breaking a big problem into little chunks and then organising them in a sensible order so they can be easily tackled. I think this strongly links to 3 and 9.

  6. I can eat whatever I want without gaining weight. Before you get too jealous: I'm also lactose intolerant so that means little cheese, little chocolate, little ice cream, little yoghurt, little cake etc

  7. I have picked up enough of a British accent in only four years that many people are surprised to learn it isn't my mother tongue.

  8. I have a sense for “making things pretty”. Unfortunately this also comes with a desire to constantly do so but I'm learning to just ignore it most of the time.

  9. I know how to program and if I may say so myself, I'm fairly good at it. Clearly I find it easy to think like a computer.

  10. I am easily excited by small things.

  1. That is so cool about #2, I would love that. I'm the same way as you with #5 which makes me a pro with #3. Yes, I'm so jealous of #6. I'm the opposite. I eat very little and gain tons of weight. We are who we are...:) Great list!

  2. Dann bin ich ja schon mal auf die Berichte zu Deiner Abschlussarbeit gespannt.

Was ich Dich fragen wollte. Kennst Du das Buch:

Ist die allgemeine Relativitätstheorie wirklich so total widerlegt, wie es da den Anschein hat? Hört man dazu was bei euch im Studium?

  3. Well you sound like a friend that I need to have in my life!!! :) Love that you made this list of yourself... it's something we all should explore, a way to really learn to appreciate ourselves.

    1. It's really hard! I found it so difficult to write positive things about myself but the result has made me feel quite good about myself so I really recommend it :)

  4. I admire you, that you find the time and think about yourself. That is a good way to find also your bad habits and things you don't love and set yourself goals to feel better.
#9 aww, me too! But i'm afraid of maths, strange i know. i hate numbers and formulars.. when i heard the maths lecture, i was wishing algorithms instead of formulas :S whatever i don't need high level maths while developing at work, whew.

    1. You are right, while I was writing this post I was also thinking of a similiar list of "things I really dislike about myself" . Maybe some time soon. :)

Funny, I learned algorithms by thinking of them in terms of formulas. It worked surprisingly well.

  5. Being easily excited is important, I think.
Haha, the accent thing happens to me all the time. When I talk to British people they always ask me why I am in Germany right now even though I live here.

  6. Love the positivity :) And a lot of people I know from Europe that don't speak English natively have British accents (which I guess makes sense, given the proximity), I think it's so interesting!

    1. The funniest is if I turn up somewhere with my sisters. I have a very british accent, my middle sister has more of a canadian one I believe ( she lived there for a year) and the youngest has more of an american accent ( many american friends ) People get SERIOUSLY confused... It's hilarious.
