So, have you memorized the sounds yet? For them to be really useful, it is recommended that one learns a number of words by heart which can then be be used as a consistent tool box for making images which hopefully should be easy to remember. The advantage is that in this way, it should be easy to interpret old pictures, as they will always use the same symbols for the same numbers.

If you are looking for a German list, check the German Wikipedia site for the Major System.

Here is my list for the numbers 0-99. Feel free to change this about but I recommend using object and making sure that things aren’t too easily confused. I tried to avoid things like mug and cup because in hindsight, I will probably get them the wrong way around and one is a 37, while the other is a 79. Not good. Saying that, I didn’t always manage (see “movie” and “reel”). I provided some links at the bottom for websites that list more words.

  1. Oh my, I am really impressed that you can remember those! I can't remember numbers if it was for my life. Right now i am trying to learn the elements of the periodic table (not in a particular order though) and that is already hard!
I tagged you for the Liebster Award ;)

    1. It's not that bad. Because I already know all the sounds corresponding to the numbers, I can recover the whole word fairly easily. For example for 41, I think "r-d" so the step to "reed" is small.
