Graduation

I graduated on Wednesday! It was a little bit a bittersweet occasion. On the one hand, it was great fun, on the other hand, this day really market my good-bye from my university and I have had a lovely time here. It also means I now need to get serious on defining the next step and this is still really scary. But lets not talk about this for now because Wednesday was really an occasion to celebrate and celebrate we did.

We got to have the ceremony with the official handshake in the Royal Albert Hall in London. It was absolutely amazing, the hall is usually used for concerts and such and is richly decorated in red and gold. I don’t think I could have wished for a grander space.

Me in my gown. It’s a bit a silly picture but it’s the only one without my parents in it and I don’t know if they’d like to see their pictures here so you will have to do with this one. I felt like Harry Potter in the gown. The yellow stripe at the front shows that I graduated in the sciences.

Recognize the dress? The purple stripe on the hood shows that I graduated from Imperial College London, which picked bright purple as it’s colour because it was the first synthetically produced die, called Mauveine.

All in all I had a lovely day starting off with the ceremony, followed by a reception with free champagne and then a lovely lunch with the Mister and my parents, who had come all the way from Switzerland just for this occasion.

Me proudly holding the prize I got for academic excellence. And that’s definitely enough pictures of me showing of for at least this month. Indulge me for one day, I promise to go back to pretty landscapes soon.

    1. Thanks :) I'm glad people actually liked looking at the pictures, I was a bit worried that the whole thing turned out to be a little bit too centered on me.

  3. Congratulations, on graduation and the prize!
I didn't go to my graduation, which would also have been in the Albert Hall (go team Imperial!). It looks so amazing!

    1. Aw, you missed out. So funny that we went to the same university. Sometimes, the internet is small.

  4. Congratulations on everything of the above! I think you look beautiful in these pictures, and I love the colour coding of your gown, it's a bit Star Trek-ish.
I'm sure whatever you'll do next will be wonderful.

    1. It is, isn't it? I thought the colour coding was quite funny too, even though I don't particularly like yellow. Maybe I should have become an engineer, then the front strip would have been grey instead.

  5. Congratulations! My boyfriend (who studies physics)is sitting next to me and would like to know what kind of degree you have now.
I have to say you look amazing in your dress and the robe, it reminds me of Harry Potter, too!

    1. I now have an MSci in Physics, which is a 4-year combined bachelor and master program. Say hi to your boyfriend from me.

Thank you :) I really felt a bit like Harry Potter, even though these things are really quite impractical. The hood kept slipping and I repeatedly sat on the sleeves.

  7. Congratulations!

Oh what a difference compared with the day, when I earned my degree. I just went to the secretary and got my certification.

    1. I'm really glad we had such an official end and even though the whole ceremony thing seemed a bit over the top (every single graduate got a handshake, it took over an hour) it was lovely to have a final day with everybody and their families.

  10. Congratulations! Nearly missed this.
Mine was more like meerfantasies. With the consequence, that now, 7 (7????) years later it still feels kind of unreal :).

You really look like Galadriel on the last pic. :)

    1. If it helps, the fact that I never have to go back there still feels somewhat unreal but I do have to admit, it was a lovely day and felt quite definite at that point too.

      Thank you :)
