Ready for a fancy night out

We had such a beautiful day with temperatures worthy of spring and the most gorgeous sunshine. I jumped at the opportunity to take some pictures of my opera dress and my new awesome coat. I'm really pleased with the dress even though it has cost me many more nerves than expected. If I'm ever really bored, I might take out the zip and replace it a little lower down as it is currently not in an ideal position. However, I strongly belueve I have more than enough hair to cover it up ;)

After my last black coat died a violent death during my cycle accident last week, I was overjoyed to find this one in a charity shop a few days ago. However, I wasn't sure if I could justify buying it at this time of year but this morning the Mister and I took a walk past the shop and I could not resist any more. It was still there and it only cost me 30 £! It seems like winter is over for the time being but I am just going to pretend it isn't and all will be good. Now I only need to find the perfect belt to wear with the coat.

Getting dressed

I'm glad to report that there has been some progress on the dress. It's actually pretty far already and I should definitely be able to finish it for thursday. I tried to take the pattern of a dress from my wardrobe but that didn't work amazingly well. However, with much adjustment I believe it fits me now so it's all good.  It looks a bit frumpy in the picture because the back is still open.

Still to do:
close the shoulder seams
Hem the lace neckline and the straps
actually sew the skirt to the top (it's currently just pinned)
hem the black layer
put in the zip (I'm dreading this so it will definitely be done last...

A special dress for special occasions

I have been crafting quietly but since I'm working on quite a few things at a time, nothing gets finished. To make things, worse, I have started a new project, to go along with the other ones. For Christmas, the Mister gave me a voucher to pick fabric for a new dress. Not just any dress thought, it was meant to be a dress for special occasions (after my infinity dress, which I wore on special nights before, suffered a little white paint incident. Don't ask). While searching for inspiration on the internet, I fell in love with this dress on ModCloth but, as you can see, it's sold out. No problem, the voucher was for fabric, not a dress, anyway. So I am going to make my own version of this.

A trip to my favorite fabric shopping corner of London returned the perfect materials for it: a lovely thin black cotton, black lace with dots on it and a loooooong zip.

The deadline is the 16.2. because that night, the Mister and I are going to the Opera and I otherwise don't have anything to wear for this occasion. So, the challenge is on! Less than one week to get this lovely finished. I know what I will be doing the next few evenings...
