Undoing hard work

I know that blogs tend to give the impression that everything always works but I can promise you, it doesn't. Remember my knitting project (from ages ago)? I was so proud of myself, this was going to be the first item of clothing that I knit for myself and actually wear and I did get further than I ever did before. I took it everywhere and knitted all the time. This was my last happy post about it and I actually knitted quite a bit further than that.

Now, If you love knitting and suffer from a weak heart, don't look at the picture below because this is what the project looked like this afternoon:

That's right, I snapped the needles. Originally, I only broke one, the knitting all fell off and I didn't see any possibility for fixing it as I only discovered it once it hat started unravelling. I got so upset, I stuck the whole project in a bag and put it out of sight. Somewhere over the last 1.5 years, I must have snapped the other needle as well. Well, there was no hope in hell I am ever going to pick that project up again so when I came across it earlier, I pulled out the sad remains of the needles and unravelled all those hours of patience.

Any idea what I could make out of the salvaged yarn? It's fairly thin (I used 3.5 needles), cotton and a vivid shade of blue. I'm oddly tempted to start the same project again, I still like the original design.

A quarter of the way

I'm still knitting, and slowly but surely the piece is growing. Today, I proudly present what I have so far. The first ball is almost gone! I could not believe my eyes when I looked into the bag I store my knitting in today and saw how small it is. Look! After that one, only three more to go. I don't know if I'm acutally improving but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

sunshine brings happyness

I hadn't realised how much I missed the sun until I saw it peeking through the clouds today. Against all expectations, we ended up with a gorgeous sunny day and lots of blue skies. I decided to take the opportunity and used my lunch break for a quick trip to Hyde Park. I found myself an empty bench facing the sun and happily knitted away for half an hour.

I feel like a flower that has been kept inside for too long, that bit of warmth and light gave me more energy than I had for a long time. I hope it will last. :)

And just to make the day perfect, I suddenly realised that there were lots of crocuses flowering all over the park, like these lovelies. I can't wait for spring.

Knitting attempts

Of course I can knit. When I was a little girl, my mother thaught me how. Okay, I haven't used it much but it can't be that hard, right?

And that's why I went and ordered myself a lot of wool today.

I will regret this, I know it already but my much loved black cardigan is slowly but surely dying. I've been searching for a replacement for it all winter long and I have found absolutely nothing. Either they are incredibly expensive or made of 100 % plastic and I hate that. So the easiest solution seemed to be to just go and knit on myself. However, I don't want to buy the lovely soft wool I have in mind quite yet, I think I need some practice first and that's why I will start out with a simpler pattern and some cotton wool.

Isn't the colour gorgeous?

I will try my hands at this Drops pattern, we'll see how it goes.

Wish me luck. (And patience)
